Authentic Movement

Thu May 13 at 2:45pm Annabel162

$15.00

Authentic movement, is a movement practice which offers delicious freedom to move or be still, dance or play in large space with others. Participants trust the inner wisdom of the body and psyche to lead them to their own experience in the moment. This practice tends to give insight into life’s core issues. There will be time for sharing of one’s experiences, as desired. Time for writing and drawing will also be included.

Annabel Grote , MA, studied improvisational modern dance with Hedy Tower for many years. In order to keep experiencing the body, mind, spirit integration and expressiveness which comes from unstructured movement, she practices and teaches Authentic Movement. She is certified in Motional Processing©, a process of holistic integration through creative expression, created by Alice Rutkowski based on the work of Anna Halprin. Annabel holds an MA degree in Counseling Psychology, is a Reiki Master and maintains a private counseling and Reiki practice.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring your journal.

CONTACT IMPROV

Sun May 16 at 2:00pm Contact_improv_photo

$15.00

Contact Improvisation is essentially a duet movement form, though other combinations have occurred, which emerged at Bennington College and Oberlin College about 36 years ago and is now being practiced world wide. Contact Improv is primarily attributed to work of Steve Paxton and now can be found in almost every major American city, Canada, Japan, Russia, Australia, Israel, Greece and more places than I know.

The appeal of Contact Improv comes from the deep satisfaction of kinesthetically and intuitively listening and moving with another person. Discovering how to give and take weight, how to follow the continuity of “energy pathways,” how to fall, how to easily lift someone and how to flow. Over time, the practice of Contact Improv leads to the emergence of an intrinsic movement logic which is organic and very exciting (and a lot of fun). It’s exciting to watch, and it’s exciting to do. Combinations and sequences of movement emerge that are unexpected and delightful – something known only by doing. All one needs is an adventurous spirit and a love of movement. No prior dance experience is required.

Barry Bell: As a dance major, Barry had the unique opportunity to study with Steve Paxton at Bennington College from 1972 to 1974. While having traveled far and wide, Barry continued to practice and perform Contact in many different settings. Upon his return to the Philadelphia area in 1985, Barry worked for a number of years with Steve Krieckhaus, and danced with Leah Stein and others. More recently, Barry has studied and performed with David Brick. Barry continues to be active in the Contact community in the Philadelphia area. In addition to his extensive experience, Barry brings a whimsical and playful teaching style to this enchanting movement form. Barry also adds another dimension not typically found in his approach to doing and teaching Contact, which is T’ai-Chi. For well over 30 years, Barry has been practicing the short, (Yang), form of T’ai-Chi brought to America by Prof. Cheng Man-Ch’ing and his followers. Barry brings essential aspects of T’ai-Chi to doing and teaching Contact.
