Contact Improv
Sun March 21 at 2:00pm
Contact Improvisation is essentially a duet movement form which emerged at Bennington College and Oberlin College about 36 years ago and is now being practiced worldwide. Contact Improv is primarily attributed to the work of Steve Paxton and now can be found in almost every major American city and many countries worldwide.
The appeal of Contact Improv comes from the deep satisfaction of kinesthetically and intuitively listening and moving with another person – discovering how to give and take weight, how to follow the continuity of “energy pathways,” how to fall, how to easily lift someone and how to flow. Over time, the practice of Contact Improv leads to the emergence of an intrinsic movement logic which is organic and a lof of fun.
Instructor: Barry Bell was a Dance Major at Bennington College, Barry studied with Steve Paxton (1972-1974) and has been studying, teaching and performing contact since that time. In addition to his whimsical style, Barry integrates aspects of the Yang form of Tai Chi he has been practicing for more than 30 years.
No prior dance experience is required.

Authentic Movement
Mon March 22 at 3:00pm
Authentic Movement is a movement practice which offers delicious freedom to move or be still, following one’s inner impulse. Participants move and also witness others, trusting the inner wisdom of the body and psyche to lead them to their own experience in the moment. There will be time for writing, drawing, and for sharing, as desired. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your journal.
Annabel Grote, MA Annabel Grote experienced the joy of movement and improvisational dance while studying with local modern dance teacher Hedy Tower.
