Beginners Pilates

Taught by Patty Segal

Pilates is a series of controlled movements, or exercises, that when performed regularly, allows for the attainment of physical fitness. Over time, and with regular practice of the Pilates exercises the student learns to understand the connections between the mind and the body, the large and small muscle groups, as well as the balance between flexion and extension, tension and relaxation. Pilates movements focus on the body's natural and correct alignment working the core and deep muscle groups. In other words, it starts from deep inside and moves outward. As a student strives toward mastery of the Pilates exercises, she/he attains a greater awareness of her/his movement, balance, and posture.

Tribal Belly Dance

Taught by Michelle Yeager

ImageTribal Belly Dance is a fusion dance style inspired by traditional belly dance movements and blended with stylistic influences from India, Asia, Africa, Spain and the Middle East. The movements are strong and sensual, and are meant to showcase the beauty of the dancers. This dance is unique in that is it performed as a group or "tribe" using subtle movement cues to improvisational lead and follow one another.

In this introductory class we will start by learning the basic movements and work our way up to dancing successfully as a group. Each class will include a warm up, some movement drills, and a cool down. Tribal style costuming and make-up will be demonstrated and depending on the group's progression we may get to some basic veil techniques as well.

This class is a great way to get in shape, work out any built up tension you may have from your day, and a chance to be surrounded by a group of positive female energies. All ages, shapes, sizes and experience levels are encouraged.

Beginners Yoga

Taught by Stacey Cohen

In Beginner Yoga classes, Stacey introduces the new student of yoga to basic breathwork and beginner level asanas (postures). Stacey additionally provides informative commentary to aid in sustaining and developing flexibility, core strength and graceful ease of movement to their body. Stacey's signatures classes filled with soft music and gentle instruction are always sure to create a warm and inviting atmosphere; perfect for getting in touch with your body even if it's the first time in years! There will be beginner level meditations and always a relaxation period at the end.

All Levels Yoga

Taught by Stacey Cohen

The all-levels classes will allow students to move to more difficult asanas and breathing techniques to further your abilities and inspire progress. This class will include sun salutations, kundalini energy building techniques, hatha yoga postures and a relaxation period, all working toward a strong individual practice in the astanga tradition.

Afro-Caribbean Dance

Taught by Carmen Butler

Learn the dance styles that originated in Africa and then came to us via the Caribbean Islands and Brazil. Our styles are based on the Katherine Dunham Technique which builds strength through rhythmic exercises and develops coordination using movement involving isolations.

Percussionists will accompany this class. [there is a $3 charge to offset the additional cost]

Qigong (new)

Taught by Beth Rose

Qigong, a branch of Traditional Chinese Method traced to as early as the 17th century b.c. is a set of meditative and physical exercises used to accumulate, circulate, and work with vital energy within the body or Qi, in order to maintain/regain physical, emotional and spiritual health.
